Practice Information
You're not sure if therapy is the right choice for you. It's sounds like a good idea, but you're just not sure if your 'issues' are important enough for therapy. Maybe its work stress, a relationship, or a big life event (e.g., like having a baby or a wedding) that's really got you stressed and feeling anxious. You have been trying your best for so long and now you're noticing that the stress is impacting your sleep, your mood, and even your relationships.
Don't let anxiety or low mood rob you of your joy or peace. You can learn to calm your racing thoughts, sleep calmly, and feel more joy again. You're not broken.
Therapy is a good idea for anyone and it can help you sort out your thoughts and feelings and learn how to live the life you have always wanted. You can learn how to calm those anxious thoughts and manage your feelings of self-doubt. You can become a more joyful and confident version of yourself.
How is that possible? In therapy you'll learn the power of your thoughts and how some of your mindset and or self-critical thoughts are actually robbing you of confidence, motivation, or joy. Imagine being able to enjoy yourself in a social setting, trust your partner, feel confident and calm at work. You can do all of that with the help of therapy. Research has shown that Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)can effectively reduce or eliminate anxiety and/or depression, but it can be used even without a mental health concern: many high performing athletes and high achievers use CBT skills to optimize their mental health and performance.
I have special training and special interest in perinatal mental health, high achievers, workplace mental health and women's anxiety.
Our practice has several therapists who can meet your needs including child and youth counselling, couples counselling, and working with adults.
I have advanced trainings in the following areas:
Perinatal Mental Health:
There are a lot of ups and downs in the journey of parenthood.
Perinatal refers to the time between conception and the baby's first birthday and it is THE MOST vulnerable time for a woman's mental health during her lifetime. Having a baby is a major life event. In addition, some of my clients have experienced losses such as miscarriage, TFMR, and fertility concerns. Others have noticed a massive change to their identity and need a safe place to discuss their feelings and anxieties.
Many of my clients enjoy the space and time to talk through this major life event in the presence of a therapist as they navigate the learning curve of parenthood, the changes to their relationships, and learn how to manage their stress.
Did you know that 1 in 5 women/birthing people and 1 in 10 men/partners will experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder (PMAD)? And that's just the people who admit they are experiencing symptoms of a disorder. There is massive pressure on parents to be 'perfect' and never admit to any anxieties, stress, low mood or anger. If you think that you or your partner is struggling since becoming pregnant or bringing home the baby: you're not alone and PMADs are treatable. You don't need a diagnosis to get effective therapy. You do not have to suffer, there are effective therapies for post-partum anxiety, depression, OCD, and birth trauma.
Anxiety and High Achievers/Workplace Burnout:
I have a special interest in helping people recover from depression, anxiety and burnout. I have specialized training in the most effective treatments for anxiety and depression. I have helped hundreds of people recover from anxiety and depression. I have also presented to companies on the topic of workplace mental health and helped organizations improve their mental health strategies.
