Practice Information

The focus of my service is the teaching of emotional self-care skills.  I draw upon leading edge therapies in facilitating each person's journey to self-awareness, healing and empowerment. This self-exploration process assists in making sense of past suffering, eliminating dysfunctional learned behaviours, and, deliberately and regularly, using tools to create new, more joyful, loving and fulfilling life experiences.

The couples counselling offered would best be described as relationship enhancement.  The goals include improved communication, greater honesty, increased intimacy, trustworthiness, and the abilty to co-create joyful interaction. Should separation or divorce become a choice, a collaborative approach to family transitions and restructuring will be used to assure completion in a way that respects both parties and sets each person free to move forward joyfully alone or in a new future relationship.  The Gay, Lesbian and transgendered couples I have worked with report feeling validated and understood. I bring a deep understanding of multicultural issues having worked with people from many different ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds.

Consultations demystify and depathologize the experiences of all who have suffered emotional turmoil as a result of family of origin dynamics, sexism, racism, poverty, bullying, toxic work environments, and power imbalances in society.

Together we will build a relationship in which we create the safety that allows deep emotion to surface, be expressed, processed and transformed. We will work at emotional, physical and spirtual levels to assure that the desired changes that are made are maintained.

Clients can expect to boost self-confidence, increase self-esteem, gain coping skills, regain a sense of control where it has been lost, become more effective agents of social change, increase creativity, and improve physical well-being.

All that transpires will occur in an atmosphere of respect, empathy, authenticity, integrity, accountability, support and encouragement which assists each person in making the most out of her/his talents and life opportunities.

Many of my clients have had exceptionally challenging experiences such as surviving the holocaust, sexual abuse, family violence, the murder of a family member, natural disaster, bankruptcy, homelessness, motor vehicle injuries, severe workplace accidents, and most report having emerged stronger and more emotionally resilient than they dreamed possible.

Those struggling with substance abuse, addiction to street drugs or socially sanctioned prescription medications will discover the joy of detoxifying both body and mind.

Telephone consultations and email exchanges can be incorporated as needed for ongoing support and follow up.  Generally brief psychotherapy is sufficient to set in motion far reaching changes.
