Practice Information

Have you been feeling overwhelmed lately by your emotions and life’s demands? Do you sometimes feel like you have exhausted your coping resources and are stuck with where you are? It’s so easy to let these moments lead to self-judgement. You are not alone - we have all felt like this at some point in our lives. If you’re ready to get unstuck and move toward a better life, therapy can be a great resource for you.

Let me introduce myself: I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and am extremely passionate about building strong and trusting bonds with my clients in order to facilitate change and growth. I work from a supportive, curious, and nonjudgmental stance, focusing on your strengths and equipping you with the resources you need in order to have the life you want.

In working together, I will create a safe and nonjudgmental environment for you to bring your fears, concerns, and hardships, the things that are preventing you from leading the type of life that you desire. I will help you regain hope for an improved future by addressing directly the challenges that would normally cause you to avoid them. Since each person is unique, we will collaboratively establish a treatment plan that is personally meaningful to you and meets your needs and goals.

I offer counselling services to children, adolescents, and adults in the areas of depression, anxiety, self-esteem, addictions, stress management, trauma, and eating disorders. I am also a certified ADHD therapist (ADHD- Certified Clinical Services Provider). Along with individual counselling, I also offer services to couples using the Gold Standard treatments, which are the Gottman Method and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). I am 1 out of the 8 certified Gottman Therapists in British Columbia. I am also a certified therapist in Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), both for individuals (EFIT) and for couples (EFCT). The dual certification of the Gottman Method and EFT largely helps to strengthen the quality of my work with individuals and couples.

The counselling models that I use are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy, all of which I have formal training in. If interested feel free to call me. I am listening....It is never too late for change and growth.

Supervision:

As a certified EFIT and ECFT therapist, I am passionate about helping professionals deepen their EFT skills with confidence and clarity. I offer supportive and collaborative supervision tailored to your needs, whether you’re new to EFT or looking to refine your practice. My goal is to create a warm, encouraging space where we can explore challenges, celebrate growth, and strengthen your ability to foster meaningful change with your clients. If you’re seeking EFT supervision that is both insightful and practical, I’d love to connect and support you on your therapist journey.

Brief General Approach to Counselling

I work collaboratively with my clients in helping them recognize their strengths and resources. Feedback is an additional factor that I perceive as essential for a positive therapeutic experience. I strongly encourage each of my clients to share their thoughts and opinions about the therapeutic process in order to strengthen cohesion and collaboration. If you would like a detailed description of my approach to counselling, including the type of therapy models that I use, how they work, and my areas of focus please feel free to take a look at my website: www.ninahopmeiercounselling.ca at the following sections: “Therapy Models” and “Areas of Focus.”

Brief Academic Background

After completing my Bachelor’s Degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and graduating with a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University, Alberta, I continued to participate in numerous training courses in order to expand my knowledge in the counselling field. My training was largely focused on mindfulness and cognitive behavioural approaches. I have also been trained in various counselling models in order to meet the needs of a diverse clientele.
