Practice Information

King Fung Tang is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (BCACC #18557) who specializes in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy for youth and adult individuals. He provides both in-person sessions at his Richmond office and secure online therapy. His work is rooted in psychoanalytic principles and focuses on long-term, in-depth therapy that explores the emotional roots of psychological suffering.

King Fung has extensive experience working with Chinese, Hong Kong, and Canadian-Asian clients. With his own cultural background and professional training in both Hong Kong and Canada, he brings a nuanced and deeply informed understanding of Chinese and Hong Kong cultural values and how these can shape a person’s emotional and psychological life. Many clients come to him struggling with issues that are not only personal, but also profoundly connected to their cultural environment, family expectations, and generational roles.

He has helped clients navigate conflicts arising from filial duty, emotional restraint, unspoken family dynamics, internalized shame, fear of success and failure, and the pressure to maintain harmony at the cost of their own emotional needs. King understands how cultural values around silence, hierarchy, and obligation can leave individuals feeling unseen, trapped, or emotionally disconnected—both from themselves and others. He offers a compassionate space where these culturally rooted struggles can be spoken, explored, and worked through.

His clinical expertise includes working with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, chronic stress, identity confusion, personality and relational issues, childhood trauma, and emotional neglect. His psychoanalytic approach provides clients with a chance to understand themselves more deeply, uncover hidden patterns, and begin to transform the emotional and relational difficulties that have held them back.

King Fung works fluently in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, and offers culturally sensitive therapy that respects each client’s unique personal and cultural context. Whether clients are new immigrants, international students, second-generation Canadians, or long-time residents, they often find that King’s ability to bridge cultural understanding with deep emotional insight makes therapy feel safer, more relevant, and more effective.

With over eight years of clinical experience, King Fung combines warmth, attentiveness, and a thoughtful presence in his work. He holds two Master’s degrees in the social sciences—one in Counselling Psychology and one in Behavioral Health—and a Bachelor of Psychological Science. He has completed advanced psychoanalytic psychotherapy training through the China American Psychoanalytic Alliance (CAPA), and continues ongoing clinical development through supervision and study.

King Fung welcomes individuals who are looking for meaningful, lasting change and who are ready to engage in deeper emotional work. His practice offers a stable, reflective space where clients can safely explore their inner world and move toward personal growth and healing.
