Practice Information
Hello and welcome! My name is Jenny and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor at Avery Therapy Centre. I hold a Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Psychology from University of Victoria and a Master’s of Counselling Psychology Degree from Adler University. Before working as a counsellor, I worked and volunteered in non-profit settings supporting individuals navigating a variety of mental health challenges. These experiences sparked a deeper interest in understanding how people heal, grow, and create meaningful change in their lives, which ultimately led me to becoming a counsellor. I have always enjoyed helping others but wanted to connect deeper and support lasting changes in people’s lives.
I work with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds and life experiences and welcome clients navigating a wide range of concerns. I also have particular interest in supporting youth and young adults as they navigate identity development, relationships, career pressure, life transitions, and mental health challenges. Outside of work you will find me spending quality time with family and friends, cuddling my dog Charlie, trying a new recipe, or unwinding with movies, books, and travel.
My therapeutic approach is collaborative, warm, and grounded in creating a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported. Together we will explore what you’re going through and gently identify patterns that may no longer be serving you. My goal is to help you develop practical tools and deeper self-understanding so you can feel more grounded, confident, and equipped to navigate life’s challenges. I recognize that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, and I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to make that first step.
I draw primarily from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy, while also integrating elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs, goals, and experiences. I believe clients are the experts in their own lives and have the capacity for growth and change. While our past experiences can shape us, they do not have to define our future. Depending on your needs and preferences, our work together may involve exploring patterns in your life, processing past experiences, building emotional awareness, strengthening relationships, challenging unhelpful thought patterns, or developing practical tools and coping strategies.
Finding the right counsellor can feel overwhelming and I’m glad you’ve taken the first step towards seeking support. If you think we may be a good fit, please reach out for a free consultation. I look forward to connecting with you.
