Counselling Practice Website
Practice Information
My clients have described me as having a calm, kind, quiet, and confident energy. I’ve been told that I ask good and sometimes hard questions to nudge you towards the root of your struggles. I approach all things with curiosity, and tend to be pragmatic and straightforward when we’re trying to make sense of things that are often abstract and not so clear-cut. I think there’s value in seeing the humour in things, and it’s likely that at some point we’ll probably do some laughing together!
Everyone is unique, and I tailor my approach to what works best for you. I always work to balance offering a supportive and comfortable place to explore your struggles while also guiding you towards the root of your issue. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get in there with you, but will check in to make sure that we’re going at a speed and depth that feels right for you. I work holistically, addressing the underlying themes present in your life while also offering practical and concrete tools you can use in the day-to-day.
Going to counselling requires us to invest time, money, and mental/emotional energy, and I think you should get what you want out of your investment. With that in mind, I like to check in with my clients and ask for feedback about how our work is going and make sure that we’re on track for you to get what you want out of counselling, and if not, make a plan to adjust course.
It’s so important to find a counsellor who feels like the right fit for you, and it can be tough to find that person! Check out my website to learn more about working with me or book a free 15 minute telephone consultation with the Schedule an appointment button below.
Individual Counselling
Many of the clients I’ve worked with feel overwhelmed by their emotions. On the outside they are able to be successful through a lot of hard work, but inside they feel like they’re barely holding it together. They’ve spent a long time silencing what they really think and feel because they’re afraid they’ll be rejected if they share their full selves with others. They feel alone, and afraid to commit to big life changes like a new job or a new relationship because they feel like they’re not good enough to succeed and get what they want. For a long time, it’s felt easier to keep things as they are and keep doing what others expect of them.
Together we can explore and change the underlying patterns that are keeping you stuck. Through counselling you can build confidence managing emotions, setting boundaries and having more of what you want in relationships. You can accept and even like who you are and have the confidence to make changes in your life that bring satisfaction at work, connection and closeness in relationships, and trust yourself to get through the hard things.
Couples Counselling
Many of my couples come to me feeling confused about how their relationship has changed over the years, and why they are feeling so lonely and disconnected from the person they’ve chosen to build a life with. Over time communication has started to break down more and more, and little conflicts that rarely feel resolved are taking up more and more space.
Underneath that tension both of you feel stuck and want for things to feel better. You’re tired of feeling alone in this relationship. You want to be able to share your fears and struggles and trust that your partner is there for you, and that sharing won’t make things worse.
Disagreements are inevitable in any relationship, but couples therapy can teach you how to navigate conflict so that you feel confident having some of those tough conversations on your own and reach a resolution. In couples counselling we will delve into each of your needs and foster empathy and understanding that will leave your relationship stronger.
Clinical Supervision for Counsellors
Receiving my own clinical supervision and consultation has dramatically improved my skills as a counsellor and supervisor. My style as a clinical supervisor involves being open, transparent, and curious. I see myself as both a teacher and fellow learner who supports your growth and gives guidance when necessary, but I don’t pretend to have all the answers. As a clinical supervisor, I like to balance providing support while also offering constructive feedback you can integrate with your clients right away. Just like counselling isn’t a one-size fits all, having a supervisor that aligns with your values, theoretical orientation, and style as a counsellor is very important.
