Practice Information

Don(he, him) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor(since 2004) with a focus on families (in all their many forms) and relationships. He strives to provide clients with a welcome, warm and supportive environment in which to address their concerns.  Don has been working with families and children since 1969 first as a social worker in northern BC and then as a teacher in Bella Bella, a teacher and principal in Burnaby, a coordinator with the fledgling NITEP program at UBC, and most recently as a counsellor working with other professionals on a divorce and separation team as  well a working with parents and kids in conflict.

Don is trained(but not actively taking clients for this work) as a divorce coach and has specialized training working with children (Collaborative Divorce Vancouver guidelines) a former member of the Parenting Coordinator Roster Society of BC and  the BC Hear The Child Society. Other training includes attachment work with Gordon Neufeld, family systems, trauma reduction, couples therapy, dispute resolution, restitution, lifespan integration and restorative justice(Australia protocols). Don also taught at Seattle University-Vancouver co-hort, in their Masters of Counselling program.

Don uses his knowledge of attachment theory to guide him but tailors his approach to the needs of his clients. His is not a cookie-cutter approach.
