Practice Information
Welcome to my profile! I know how difficult it can be to find the right fit. Good for you for getting this far in the counsellor search process! My name is Amie (she/her), I am a therapist with a down to earth approach yet a wealth of academic and professional experience in the mental health field. Since 2005 I have worked in community mental health settings including Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, initially specializing in youth but have since grown to seeing a broad range of individuals, couples and families.
I have specialties in treating complex trauma and PTSD but also help with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression and relationship struggles. I provide both concrete strategies for coping with distress and help with the processing of stuck emotions related to negative experiences, relationships and feelings of disconnection and low self-worth. Keeping you safe and comfortable in the therapy process is highly important to me.
At the heart of my work is an understanding that no size fits all and my goal is to understand what is going on for you and collaborate on how to make the changes you want for yourself.
I am an EMDR-Certified therapist, meaning that I keep up to date with the latest evidence-based trauma treatment research in the international community. I also practice full-fidelity DBT in the public system and draw from this along with other evidence-based attachment and relational modalities in my work.
I hold a Masters of Social Work Degree from UBC, am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and run Amie Anderson & Associates Counselling Group where I provide clinical supervision to a team of seasoned counsellors.
I see clients in Vancouver and Abbotsford and online across BC.
