Practice Information

Judith Setton-Markus is a Registered Psychologist licensed with the College of Psychologists of BC #1712. She is also a Psychoanalyst and Psychoanalytically Oriented Psychotherapist, a member of the Western Branch Canadian Psychoanalytic Society and the International Psychoanalytic Association.

Judith offers Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis to adult men and women, as well as Couples and Family Therapy. She also provides Parent-Infant Psychotherapy addressing stumbling blocks that may arise in the provision of infant care and parent infant bonding, such as postpartum depression and anxiety. .

Her fees may be partially covered by Extended Health Plans. She offers all services in English and Spanish.

Judith has over 40 years of experience working extensively with relationship concerns and intimacy issues as well as depression, anxiety and problems of self-esteem. Although many people express the desire to have close and intimate relationships, they often do not understand the emotional barriers standing in the way of developing satisfying relationships. By helping her clients discover their repetitive patterns of relating, and by helping them work through the forces that keep these patterns in place, Judith believes they will better able to discover and develop new ways of relating.

Judith has experience working in the area of clinical training and supervision. She is a Clinical Associate at Simon Fraser University, a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia and a faculty member of the Western Branch Canadian Psychoanalytic Society.

One of her special interests is the provision of Infant Observation Seminars. Judith considers this method a unique training tool for enabling clinicians to observe how infants develop emotionally within their families and to develop many of the skills necessary in the provision of psychotherapy and clinical counseling: free floating attention, neutrality, containment, and observation of detail.
