Insight and Therapy:
It takes great courage and insight to make the decision to engage in therapy to examine and address the concerns that have been troubling you. Though it may seem daunting, therapy can be an important avenue to take inventory of your life, so that a plan can be created to recalibrate and find new, adaptive pathways to help you live the life you want.
Psychologist Profile:
I am an experienced, registered psychologist who practices clinical and health psychology in Vancouver, BC. I achieved my Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts degrees in Clinical Psychology at the CPA/APA-accredited program at York University in Toronto, Ontario. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet and work with clients at some of the most challenging junctures in their lives, to help them rediscover their resilience.
My professional interests have focused on the complex relationships between mental, emotional, and physical health. Since 2002, I have provided psychological services to university students, medical patients (heart disease, cancer, chronic pain, solid organ transplant), and individuals dealing with life stressors (chronic illness, life transitions, loss) and emotional concerns (depression and anxiety disorders).
Practice Areas:
Our emotional well-being can affect our physical well-being and vice versa. My clinical and health psychology practice focuses on this mind-body relationship. I possess the clinical experience and expertise to help adults address and manage major depression, stress, insomnia, and anxiety disorders (panic, social anxiety, PTSD, OCD). I also am experienced in helping individuals and their family members cope and live better with physical health conditions (e.g., heart disease, chronic pain, gasterointestinal disorders, etc). My mission is to work with clients to enhance well-being and quality of life by introducing strategies to reduce distress and improve resilience to life's stressors.
Treatment Approach:
My approach is supportive and compassionate, yet also direct and solution focused. I view therapy as a collaborative process where my role as a psychologist is to work with each client to assess their areas of concern, address any barriers to making change, and to develop a tailored treatment plan. I also view therapy as an active process in that the work of therapy occurs not only in session but also between treatment sessions in the changes that clients make in their daily life.
The treatments that I offer are evidence-based, meaning that these methods have been scientifically studied and shown to be effective. The treatments that I practice include the following:
- Cognitive Behavior Therapy
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Stress Reduction
- Prolonged Exposure Therapy
- Exposure and Response Prevention
