Practice Information

Hello, my name is Jasmine (she/her) and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a Registered Nurse (RN) working in Burnaby, British Columbia.

My Approach:

In therapy, I embrace a humanistic, person-centred approach, fostering an open and collaborative environment where you feel truly heard, seen, and accepted. By encouraging deep reflection and introspection of thoughts, emotions, and experiences, we work together to uncover insights that lead to greater self-awareness, enhanced self-esteem, and meaningful personal growth. While person-centred therapy forms the foundation of my approach, I also integrate elements from other therapeutic modalities—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI)—to best meet your needs. Central to my counselling values is creating a safe, supportive space that is inclusive, strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive.

My Experience & Credentials:

My passion for mental health started with my career as a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in mental health. For nearly a decade, I have worked in diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, outreach programs, and community services. Throughout my experience, I have supported individuals facing a wide range of mental health challenges, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), personality disorders, trauma, stress, low self-esteem, body image concerns, relationship and family conflicts, substance use/addiction, and grief.

My transition to counselling was fueled by my desire to help in a different way—by offering a deeper, more holistic approach to healing. I wanted to not only help manage symptoms but also explore and address the deeper emotional and psychological factors contributing to people’s struggles. Counselling allows me to engage with individuals on a more meaningful and therapeutic level—fostering resilience, self-discovery, and lasting transformation.

  • Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, Yorkville University (YU)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)
  • Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology, University of British Columbia (UBC)

I have also participated in additional training in:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)

My Background:

As a Chinese-Canadian therapist, I have a deep understanding of multicultural dynamics, issues, and the complexities of identity, belonging, and cultural adaptation. My personal and professional experiences provide me with an insight into the unique challenges faced by first-generation immigrants and their families, including navigating intergenerational differences, acculturation stress, and the pressure of balancing their heritage culture and host culture. I am particularly attuned to how cultural identity shapes mental health and relationships, and I strive to provide a culturally responsive and inclusive space for clients of all backgrounds.
