Practice Information
I am a compassionate and dedicated Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC # 17221) affiliated with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. With the expertise in individual and couple therapy, I tailor my therapy to meet the unique needs of clients who face challenges in their relationships and struggle with various mental health and somatic conditions.
My therapeutic focus encompasses a wide range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, phobias, obsessive behaviors, dissociative processes and complex trauma. Drawing from the highly effective Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) method, I utilize evidence-based techniques to support clients on their healing journey. Additionally, I integrate somatic interventions and internal family systems to provide a holistic approach that addresses the interconnectedness of mind and body.
In my approach to couple therapy, I draw inspiration from two highly regarded methods: the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. These approaches provide a strong foundation for working with couples, as they offer flexibility and adaptability to address the unique challenges and dynamics within each relationship.
By incorporating the Gottman Method, I create a space where couples can openly explore and process their gridlock issues. This method emphasizes the importance of understanding and managing conflict, enhancing communication, and fostering deep emotional connections. Through various interventions and exercises, couples can gain insights into their patterns of interaction, strengthen their friendship, and develop effective conflict resolution strategies. On the other hand, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy approach delves into the underlying emotional experiences of individuals within the relationship, highlighting the significance of attachment bonds. By helping couples identify and express their raw emotions in a safe environment, EFT facilitates the healing of attachment wounds and the cultivation of secure and satisfying connections.
By merging these two approaches, I bridge the gap between attachment-based theories and behavioral/cognitive approaches. This integration allows me to address both the emotional and behavioral aspects of a couple's dynamic, and foster a comprehensive understanding of the presenting challenges. This holistic approach facilitates lasting change by promoting emotional safety, enhancing communication skills, and encouraging behavioral shifts that support the couple's unique goals.
I embrace a non-judgmental and non-oppressive approach when working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. As an ethnic minority in Canada, I can readily empathize with individuals who have experienced systemic racism and discrimination in their workplace and daily lives. I believe that as a mental health professional, it is crucial to advocate for social justice and gender equity within our community. Moreover, I am fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English, ensuring that language is not a barrier to therapy. This linguistic ability fosters a deeper connection and allows Chinese-speaking clients to freely express themselves and feel more connected with their therapist.
